Artist: Pomm Hepner About the Art and Artist I paint peaceful moments. Times when you see the sun cast shadows on your shoulder, you hear the birds sing and you feel the breeze sweep softly against your face. Moments that make you reflect on peace, beauty and love, moments that inspire you and bring you back to life. Moments in time we all need to have in our lives.

Artist: Megan Lassen About the Art and Artist With mid-range stoneware, I construct whimsical, functional pottery through hand-building, sculpting, and wheel thrown components. I decorate the objects as one of a kind by using a combination of hand drawing, screen printing, painting, and hand-made transfers, to create images on the surfaces prior to adding texture and sculptural components. I often leave some of the natural color and texture of the clay in combination with glazing to create a visual and sensual feeling for the user. Most commonly I fire in an electric kiln to cone 5 and 6.
I’ve always been interested in the relationship between arts and crafts, and how each person, with different backgrounds, internal and external reflections, and bias, interacts with the art and the world around them. The realization that everyone looks not just with their eyes, but with their joy, their pain, their beliefs; present and past, to see something completely different from the person next to them. They put a small part of themselves into what they see. I don’t think of myself as overly serious or original, but I feel like we may have multiple dimensions or multiple realities happening at the same time. Because of this, I incorporate humor and whimsy into the 1-D and 3-D surface decorations of my pottery by creating little scenes with prints, underglaze images, drawings and paintings, and little half sculptures or sprigs. By combining nature images and patterns with things from outside of our understanding, I feel that my vessels may embody my own paradoxical desire for function with the humor of life’s strangeness. With unlikely combinations of images and sculptures on my everyday objects, I hope to emphasize joy, goofiness, and love that can be present in daily rituals, and sometimes mundane activities. If someone can question what they think they know about this life, this dimension that we may be living in, with grace and humor, then my objects may be successful. Artist: Kendra Runnels About the Art and Artist I began my working life in my early 20s as a graphic designer, but quickly and unexpectedly found myself with a paintbrush in my hand. After returning home from a life-changing, yearlong mission trip in 2010, I became a full-time artist. For the last decade I have been working to touch people through my artwork and bring hope, joy and beauty to peoples’ homes and lives.
I create mixed media pieces of artwork depicting dreamlike, nostalgic and natural scenes using a combination of collage, pattern, texture and layers of acrylic paint. My subjects vary a great deal from people walking in the rain, street/location scenes to animals and nature. But the thread of similarity throughout my pieces are the collaging of pages from old books, sheet music and other found papers into my artwork. A few years back, I felt using words and phrases in my work could help me tell the meaning behind each work of art. It could also help me tell my story, help others see their own story in my work and it could be a daily whisper of encouragement and hope to anyone who sees my pieces. I am married with two young children so I create new original pieces when I can, and have many canvas and paper print options of sold works as well. If you have an account, please follow me on instagram @kendrastudios, and subscribe to my website - you'll be the first to know about new releases and sales. Artist: Amy Brandenburg About the Art and Artist: Amy has always been interested in art from an early age. She went to a liberal arts college in Chicago where she focused on jewelry, fashion and costume design. It was there that she realized her passion for three dimensional art. Graduate school for costume history in New York offered her a background in the history of art and to period styles throughout fashion and the decorative arts. It was there that she embraced the Arts and Crafts and Art Nouveau styles that can be seen in her work today. She discovered metal clay, an alternative to her earlier metalsmithing days and was set free to create by it’s metamorphic properties. She embraced this medium and had been making jewelry with it since she moved to the mountains of North Carolina.
Artist: Don Greeson About the Art and Artist Not all serious art is dull or trendy. My illustrative paintings of playful pets, nostalgic toys, and animals engaged in human activities are lively and colorful. Originals are in acrylic on Masonite; prints are signed and matted in standard frame sizes.
Artist: Elyse Messick About the Art and Artist Home.
These fields have been a constant backdrop to not only my story, but my mother and grandmother’s as well. The long grass, open skies, dappled treelines, and the very dirt of our fields have played a significant soundtrack to generations of my family. Observed and captured over a variety of hours, months, and seasons, these paintings pay homage to the essence of the people and places that make a home. The fields have always represented warmth of memory and deep familial ties which I wanted to capture through dreamlike brushstrokes, layered textures, and a peaceful process of plein air and studio painting. Thank you for letting me share this deeply meaningful work with you. I now invite you to take a moment to pause and fondly recall the people and places that you have called “home” in your own life. Artist: Julie Merrill About the Art and Artist Click here to eI have been working with metals since 2003. A period of hardship and self-discovery led me into the world of metals through jewelry making. I immediately felt a passion for working with the elements of the earth and started schooling in silversmithing and later blacksmithing. As a woman, I was challenged with the stereotypes of men being stronger and women less capable for this type of work. However, I continued with perseverance and started my metalworking business in 2011. Over the years, I have transitioned the focus of my business into jewelry and adornment only, bringing more ease and precision to my work.
I have always been captivated by the allure of forgotten cultures, their traditions, and the wisdom they hold. Over the years, as I delve deeper into my exploration with metals, I found myself drawn to create my own talismans and amulets - objects that are carried for protection in a difficult world. These totems connect us to the past ways, serving as tangible links to ancient beliefs and practices. These modern-ancient relics could become conduits for connecting us with something greater than ourselves. My artistic endeavors are fueled by the rich stories of my ancestors that I have connected with. Through the past, we are moved by the resilience and creativity displayed by our ancestors. Their ability to find beauty in simplicity and harmony in diversity inspires us to embrace our own roots and appreciate the richness that surrounds us. The opportunity of being an artist is the great influence one has to inspire and grow positive and lasting change in the world. I love the process of diving deeper into my heart and my life experiences to transform them into the material realm, to create and recreate my visions into material beauty, protection, and divine adornment. It is an opportunity of joy and embodiment, of connecting to ones inherent gifts and the contentment of sharing these gifts with the world. I was featured in the Asheville Made magazine in July, 2023, here is the link to the article: ashevillemade.com/mixed-metal-alchemist-did-what-they-said-couldnt-be-done/dit. Artist: Rachel Alfonso-Smith About the Art and Artist Hello, my name is Rachel and I’m an artist from New York City. I have been creating since my earliest memories. Whether I was engineering something useful from paperbags, or repurposing garments, or learning to develop my black and white film in a pantry closet/ makeshift darkroom, I was always busy! I found myself drawing and coloring the things I could see around me. People’s expressions and faces. Objects that would otherwise be mundane were the focus of an afternoon’s sketching session.
For many years I never really thought about how my art affected other people. I just felt compelled to create new things and try out new media. But now, I love how my art impacts and uplifts others. I really enjoy seeing it in their homes and how they interact with a piece they call their very own. Currently, I’m capturing the natural world around me expressed through the deeply personal space of dreams. I have always dreamt of a better world; one where we can dream in color and all be creatives. I look forward to a world where our environment is healthy and the people around us are kind, helpful and interested in improving themselves and their impact on their surroundings. I’m positive that this dream is real. Painting these dreams gives me hope. Rachel is a member of the Transylvania Community Arts Council, the Art League of Henderson County, the Professional Photographers of America and a former student of the New York Institute of Photography. Rachel recently started her local chapter of the Urban Sketchers. While residing in NYC Rachel received several awards during her schooling years, including having an illustration on show at MoMA- PS1. What the artist says about their art: As an artist, I utilize linocut printmaking techniques, and occasionally watercolor, to create work that focuses on imagery from daily life and nature. My goal is to capture the vibrancy and joy of small moments and scenes through high contrast depictions of pattern, line, and shape. The process of carving each linoleum block and pulling each print is a mediative act. The linocut technique emphasizes an intimate connection with each piece, which I hope encourages my viewers to pause, reflect, and engage with the world around them. I first began printing in 2017 while in college, and I fell in love with the processes behind printmaking and the ability to create accessible art. When I'm not printing, I currently work as a mental health therapist. My studio practice plays a large role in maintaining my own mental wellbeing, and I enjoy sharing my work online and at art festivals and shows.
